We are hiring one (1) Specialist, Business Controls & Data Analytics [Full Time, Permanent] position in Edmonton, AB – a strategic and highly technical role that blends advanced data analytics with operational planning and business controls. You’ll play a key role in supporting the Customer Care’s Workforce Planning and Energy Services (Canada and Unites States) through forecasting, regulatory support, performance optimization and data-informed decision-making.
This role requires strong technical proficiency in tools such as SQL, Python, Power BI, and Power Query, along with the ability to translate complex data, present clear insights and actionable recommendations to senior leaders. As a Specialist, you’ll be responsible for analyzing and monitoring workforce planning at the portfolio level, including budgeting, forecasting, regulatory filings, and identifying operational risks and recovery strategies. You’ll also support business development through research and analysis, contribute to strategic recommendations for EPCOR’s Energy Services group, and engage with external stakeholders. Additionally, you’ll develop and maintain business control standards and processes that enhance efficiency and effectiveness across Customer Care’s Workforce Planning Team.

What you’d be responsible for
Reporting to the Manager, Business Analytics, you will have the following key accountabilities (but are not limited to these):
- Providing analysis, development, and monitoring of Customer Care strategic goals, including implementing numerical frameworks for budgets, supporting financial decisions (including shared service strategies across the BU), preparing regulatory filings, and producing management and variance reports while ensuring strong data governance.
- Driving continuous improvement in Customer Care operations by developing and executing operational plans related to workforce planning, performance management, operational efficiency, and business sustainability, using industry benchmarks to inform recommendations and occasionally leading their implementation.
- Researching, evaluating, and recommending new business opportunities to support Customer Care sustainability by engaging third parties, analyzing risks and opportunities, and understanding diverse regulatory environments to inform strategic direction.
- Contributing to the development of advanced analytic models for forecasting and business process optimization, including building and testing statistical models and conducting scenario planning.
- Creating automated reports and queries for Energy Services using tools such as Excel, Power Query, Power BI, and programming languages like SQL and Python.
- Developing and maintaining robust business controls and processes for Workforce Planning that enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.
- Reviewing and reinforcing adherence to data governance principles within Customer Care, identifying and closing gaps to ensure data integrity.
- Representing Customer Care on cross-functional projects and initiatives that require analytical expertise and operational knowledge, including leading change management efforts, engaging stakeholders, and being accountable for executing recommendations.
- Establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with peers and stakeholders across Energy Services and EPCOR to support business objectives.
What’s required to be successful
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications, experience and behaviours:
Required (Must Haves):
- A Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field such as Economics, Statistics, Accounting, Finance or Computer Science.
- 5+ years of demonstrated analytical experience in a business environment.
- Strong skills in data analysis, forecasting, and performance measurement coupled with operational and financial budgeting capabilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft tools (Excel, Word, Power BI, Power Query etc.) and complementary technologies (SQL and Python etc.) used for data analysis, reporting, and automation.
- Strong communication (verbal and written) and presentation skills coupled with the ability to engage with Senior Leaders.
- High attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality deliverables.
- A disciplined, accountable, and results-driven approach, with a focus on safety, innovation, and collaboration.
Assets (Nice-to-Haves):
The following experience will be considered an asset:
- Experience working in a workforce or business operations planning.
- Experience working in a regulated utility.
- Experience in a multi-faceted client focused or customer service environment
